Elliwiny: This page took forever, and would have taken even longer if Sin hadn’t put together a sketchup model of the DuPré’s shape! There were lots of pictures I looked up and referenced to answer questions I’d never really thought about before. Like, what do they put on roofs of stores, and what the hell does a palm tree even look like??

Were you thinking about where to put the pool when you designed this? Or had the pool scene not been planned yet?
The whole book was planned/outlined before we started (though only the first two chapter were fully scripted). We hadn’t *designed* the pool yet, but I figured the angle was low enough that the roof structures wouldn’t necessarily be visible. Obviously in hindsight, you’re right, they definitely would’ve been.
Seconded on the pool not being designed yet – I remember getting to the pool scene later and realizing ‘oh, there needs to be some railings or something so people don’t fall off the roof’, and then looking up references and find out that a lot of roof pools have these really tall glass enclosures, which then in turn effects Jack’s acting, when he really has to HUCK a [spoiler] over it.
